Now even the president has the virus!

Donald and Melania Trump have Covid 19!

After months of down-playing the extent and seriousness of the pandemic, the test results are in. Melania and Donald Trump have both tested positive to Covid 19. The Trumps' contracting the virus may have resulted from Trump's exposure to Hope Hicks, one of his senior advisors, who tested positive to the virus earlier. This development could have a significant impact on the election as well as the day to day running of the U.S. government.

CNN states: "The diagnosis amounts to the most serious known health threat to a sitting American president in decades. At 74 years old and obese, Trump falls into the highest risk category for serious complications from the disease, which has killed more than 200,000 Americans and more than 1 million people worldwide."  (President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump test positive for Covid-19)

Fox News on the other hand notes that the current White House doctor said: "This evening I received confirmation that both President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump have tested positive for the SARS-coV-2- virus. The President and First Lady are both well at this time, and they plan to remain at home within the White House during their convalescence." (Ex-White House physician: Trump is ‘asymptomatic,’ will be ready for next debate)

It looks like the government will continue to function normally and President Trump is asymptomatic, meaning he has no symptoms at the present time. Most people do overcome the virus without serious complications even though, tragically, some people have had very bad outcomes. At this point it may be too early to tell what will happen in the case of the president, but despite the negative feelings of many world leaders towards Trump, many have wished him a speedy recovery.
