The lizard people conspiracy theory and its deadly results
The December 2020 Nashville bombing was a result of the lizard conspiracy theory
Yesterday we discussed the QAnon conspiracy theory and the fact that it led to the capitol riot last week. But there are other conspiracy theories that can have very negative consequences. For example, you may have heard that on Christmas morning a few weeks ago there was a terrible explosion in downtown Nashville, Tennessee. Fortunately no one was killed except the person who set off the bomb. That person, Anthony Quinn Warner, believed in another conspiracy theory which is that the world is controlled by lizards disguised as humans. This conspiracy theory has an old history dating back to the later 1800's and like the QAnon theory is often held by people that feel powerless is the modern world due to political and financial causes. Some of the people considered to be lizards are Justin Bieber, Barack and Michelle Obama, the British royal family, Mick Jagger (of the Rolling Stones rock band) and other public figures. One of the most important promoters of the lizard people theory is the former British soccer goalie David Icke. Other people have promoted the same theory on the internet and have connected this lizard idea with religion.

Sadly, this conspiracy led to the Nashville bombing when Anthony Warner connected the lizards to certain kinds of WiFi technology, which he wanted to destroy with his bomb. In addition, there have been recent murders that occurred because the murderers believed that their partner or brother was actually a lizard. As you can see from these examples, conspiracy theories can have very real and tragic consequences. The internet is a place where anyone can publish anything, which means we should should be cautious about what we read online and to think about things critically using our common sense to decide if something is true or not, before we accept it as reality.
