Ice isn't always nice!

Giant ice sheets roam Lake Michigan

As we all know, it has been a very cold and snowy February. This has led to the formation of giant ice sheets on the coasts of Lake Michigan. These are huge areas of ice, miles across in some cases, that form during our frigid January and February winters. This week, a large ice sheet that formed along Lake Michigan in Chicago broke off from the shore and drifted across the lake to the state of Michigan. It is an amazing sight you can watch in the videos below. Sometimes people are ice fishing in these ice sheets when they break off from the shore at this time of the year. These fishermen and women often need to be rescued by the coast guard as the ice sheet drifts out into the lake. Consequently the message is: stay off the ice!

Question: have you been to the Waukegan lake front or beach since last March?
