How will we build on Mars?
Humans have wanted to visit and colonize the planet mars for a long time. We have already sent numerous rockets and robots to the surface and atmosphere of the 'red' planet. The next step is a manned flight and then settlement on our neighbor. However what material will we use to build our homes of and what we will eat on mars? The answer is simple: chitin and insects. Insects are full on protein and interestingly enough are eaten in some parts of the world, including in Asia. They are easy to breed and could be used as a food source on the flight to Mars as well as on the surface of the planet. In addition, for building material, the substance found in their exoskeletons, insects have skeletons on the outside of their bodies, is called chitin. Mushrooms and fish scales also contain chitin. Scientists have found that chitin can be combined with sand, and mars has lots of sand, to make building materials. So the insects could provide both food and building materials for human colonies on mars. Learn more in the articles below:
