The Great Pumpkins

The Largest Pumpkins in the world

In October we always think about Halloween and also about pumpkins. Many teachers and some students remember the famous Charlie Brown animated movie; The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, which always reminds us of pumpkin patches. Another pumpkin-related theme you may not be aware of is the growing of giant pumpkins. In many places in the USA and in Europe, growing giant pumpkins for contests can lead to fame and fortune. This year, Michael Asam, in Heretshausen Germany grew the largest pumpkin, weighing 1,549 pounds, which is really big. A Toyota Corolla in contrast, weighs 2,800 pounds. So Michael's pumpkin is still lighter than a car. On the other hand the largest pumpkin of all time weighed 2,624.6 pounds, and was grown by Mathias Willemijns of Belgium in 2016. Mathias' pupkin was heavier than a Corolla. This years Michael in Germany received $589 dollars as the prize for his own great pumpkin. See the articles for more:
