Online learning at least until mid-February!
In a letter from the superintendent, Theresa Placencia, we learned two days ago that online learning will extend at least until mid-February. In the text from the email Theresa Placencia states:
"February 16 is the earliest we would begin any hybrid instruction, but we will continue to rely on relevant health metrics, as well as the advice of health professionals when making a final decision. We are pleased to see some encouraging signs, however. In recent weeks, the COVID incidence rate in Waukegan and in Lake County has dropped significantly from its mid-November peak. We know the positive trend has the potential to reverse course with the recent holiday season behind us, but we are hopeful the decrease in cases will continue."
Remember that the Waukegan schools has a four phase plan and we are still in phase one. Phase two will be when the younger children return to their school buildings part time. We will not return part time until phase three. Each phase will be at least two weeks long. This means that the earliest we could return would probably be March.
The good news is that the vaccine is being provided for hospital staff and for nursing home residents and perhaps will be given to school teachers and staff next month. So, there is hope that we return at some point this year.
