The Perseverance Rover, an unmanned spaceship and vehicle we sent to mars has landed and sent back some really amazing footage of the planet's surface. We can see what it really looks like after centuries of speculation. It actually appears a lot like we have always described mars in famous stories like Ray Bradbury's book The Martian Chronicles. It is red after all and desert, quite a bit like the American Southwest or Northern Mexico.

The Perseverance rover also has a robotic surface vehicle that will spend two years looking for signs of ancient life on the red planet. As you might already know, the US government has said we will send humans to mars by the 2030's, only about ten years from now. The Perseverance Rover is a huge step in accomplishing that goal. It is a remarkable feat of science and should inspire all of us to look forward to a better future!
