Is he guilty of unwarranted use of force?

Officer Joseph Mensah: should he be fired?

In the the nearby city of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, a suburb of Milwaukee and one hour's drive from Waukegan, the police officer Joseph Mensah has been found justified in the use of deadly force against a 17 year old suspect. Joseph Mensah has been an officer for more than 8 years, and during that time he has been engaged in three fatal police-involved shootings. All of the suspects that were shot were young men of Hispanic or African American background. However, all of the shootings were ruled justified. In addition, Joseph Mensah is himself a young black man, and his family is from Ghana in West Africa. Although the shootings Mensah was involved in were ruled justified, some people have attempted to have him fired from his job as a police officer. Local politicians have called for his shootings to be reinvestigated, and prominent celebrities, including the Jonas Brothers and Jay-Z have called for his dismissal from the police force. While the incidents were being reinvestigated, Joseph Mensah was placed on suspension from the police force. Yesterday the Milwaukee county district attorney stated that Mensah will not be charged in the most recent police-involved shooting of a 17 year old suspect. The family of the suspect said that the decision was wrong and that Mensah should be charged and fired. Others say Mensah was simply defending himself and his community.
